Resources for Pet Families

We’re here to help! WHS offers a variety of resources and services to help keep pets healthy and happy.

Free Resources

Behavior Tips & Advice

Whether you’re struggling with potty training, litterbox issues, inappropriate chewing, furniture scratching, crate training, or a host of other behavioral challenges, we’ve got a resource that can help!

Pet Food Pantry

WHS helps keep people and their pets together by providing food, treats, and cat litter to bridge gaps in access to these important resources. Pantries are first-come, first-served at all WHS sheltering locations.

Dog Training Services

Sign up your pup for our fun and engaging group training classes! Enroll your puppy or adult dog in a training course at our Milwaukee, Racine, or Ozaukee Campuses. We also offer private lessons for pups who struggle in group settings.

Low-Cost Veterinary Services

Vaccine Clinics

Vaccinations are a simple, effective way to protect your pet from serious disease. WHS offers low-cost vaccine clinics for dogs and cats by appointment at all of our locations, making preventive care easy and affordable.

Spay/Neuter Surgery

WHS offers high-quality spay/neuter services for the public at affordable rates. From TNR and barn cat surgeries to spay/neuter for household pets at varying rates, we’ve got a program that’s just right for you and your animal.

End of Life Services

WHS provides compassionate, low-cost euthanasia services at our Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, and Green Bay Campuses, as well as both communal and private cremation at all six of our shelters.

Rehoming Support

Virtual Rehoming

When it comes to finding a new home for your animal, their best resource is often you! Since you know all their preferences, habits, and routines, your insight can be incredibly helpful in finding them a great match. Plus, through virtual rehoming, your animal gets to stay in a familiar environment (your home) while you search for an adopter or foster home, rather than coming to a shelter.

Surrender to WHS

If you have exhausted other resources and/or do not have the ability to rehome on your own, you can surrender your animal the WHS campus nearest you. We are an open-admissions shelter and will never turn away an animal in need. If there is a medical or behavioral reason why we cannot place your animal into our adoption program, you can choose to reclaim them and try other options.

Milwaukee-based Programs

Domestic Violence Resources

In partnership with the Sojourner Family Peace Center, the WHS Milwaukee Campus offers up to 60 days of shelter for pets from families affected by domestic violence so their owners can leave an abusive situation and seek safety without fearing for their companion animal.

Pets For Life Program

Our PFL program supports animals and families in neighborhoods where access to pet care can be limited. Through door-to-door outreach, we connect families with free pet care services and remove barriers such as cost and transportation—making it easier for pets to receive the care they deserve.
